Trolling Bridgeport Reservoir

Created on: 9/11/2006

The trolling on Bridgeport Reservoir is picking up again. There's quite a bit of algae in the water on Bridgeport, but not near as much as there usually is for this time of year. The trolling hasn't been too bad for most of the season, and now it's starting to get better. On Sept. 10 I was out there trolling for perch with Rey of Stay Bent Fishing and we were able to catch 5 perch up to 2 lbs 5 oz and one rainbow that went about 2 pounds which we released. All these fish were caught on a number 7 jointed Rapala in the fire tiger color fished with 2.5 to 3 colors of lead core. Those perch made some great tacos for dinner that night!

We've had quite a few reports from anglers lately who've been trolling Bridgeport with rigs ranging from lead core and Rapalas, to top-lining with blades and crawlers. They're picking up a variety of perch, rainbows and browns. It seems the perch are hanging mostly down near the bottom while the trout are suspended from the surface to about 12 feet of water or so.

As the weather gets cooler and the algae starts to die off, the trolling should only get better on Bridgeport. Also as this happens, we should start seeing some nicer browns start coming in. The lake level is still high and all three launch ramps are still under water. If you need any additional information, don't hesitate to give us a call. (760)932-7707
