A couple days ago we had a visit from the new biologist in charge of our local "Wild Trout" waters. He's been coming to the Eastern Sierra for many years to fish. He loves the area and has many friends in the area. It's a real breath of fresh air to have someone in this position who cares about the local waters!
We've been told that Kirman is high on his list of priorities and he gave us a little update as to what's going on there lately. In 2006 there were 15,000 fingerling Brook Trout and 1,000 fingerling Cutthroat Trout released into Kirman. As of now, there are an additional 15,000 Brook Trout and 1,000 Cutthroat Trout scheduled to be released in 2007. Apparently the DFG has had a little trouble growing Brookies the last few years but are trying to work out the bugs. In the future they hope to be able to plant much larger numbers of both species in Kirman.
In my opinion (for whatever it's worth) I think that as long as they are able to keep putting fish into Kirman each and every year, there will be all different size classes for anglers to catch, and I think that in 2 to 5 more years it could quite possibly become the fishery it was back in the 70's and 80's...and wouldn't that be something???
