The East Walker River has been fishing very well as of late. There were a couple tough days last week, but the last 5 or 6 days have been pretty good. I was down there yesterday and was able to land 4 browns, not too big, probably in the 12 to 14 inch range, all on aggravator princes and red copper johns. A couple days before that I was on the river with Ken's Guides Nick and Andrew and between the 3 of us we got in to well over 20 fish. The largest was a nice 24 or 25 inch female brown caught on a #20 red disco midge. Most of the fish were in the 12 to 16 inch range, with a couple in the 16 to 20 inch range. We caught fish on several patterns including micro stones, disco midges, soft hackles, zebra midges, poxyback baetis, etc. It seemed that when the hits quit coming all we had to do was switch up the flies and we'd get back in to them.
We've had quite a few good reports from customers as well. Yesterday a gentleman came in late in the afternoon after picking up a few flies in the morning, as he walked into the shop he smiled and said "Epic." He said he was having a little bit of a tough time so started switching flies, then when he put on an olive Tailwater Tiny it was almost every cast. He said the fish seemed to be fighting over his fly.
Of course there are some anglers not doing very well on the river also, but I think that if you put in some time and pay attention to what you're doing you should be able to have a great day.
The flows have been bouncing a little but haven't gone above the 140 cfs mark. The last few days it's been around 70 or 80.
The Nevada side has also been fishing very well, a little more stonefly action down there. The Rosachi Ranch section as well as the Sceirine Ranch section have both been doing very well. Lots of action and not too much pressure. The Sceirine has some openings coming up if you're interested in having a great stretch of water all to yourself.
Keep in touch and I'll try to keep you informed.
