The weather has become a little more mild as of late, and this has made the fishing on the East Walker even better! Anything small and green has been the ticket lately. WD-40’s, Nori’s caddis, z-wing caddis, timberline emerger’s, and the like are all doing well. We’ve also had some good reports on silver streaks (as usual), flashback emergers (as usual), and even some copper johns, san juan worms and tailwater tiny’s. Haven’t talked to anyone swinging streamers lately, but I think zonkers and zuddlers would do the trick if you want to do some of that. The water is still really low, but I expect it to start coming up a little bit any time now. Once it gets to be over 30 of 40 cfs it really should light up. All of the anglers we’ve seen lately have had nice smiles on their faces, the crowds are still light but now that the weather is warming there will be some traffic down there.
The Sceirine Ranch section in Nevada is also fishing great these days, we’ve had about 6 or 8 anglers down there within the past week and they’ve all done really well. The same types of fly patterns have been effective on both the Sceirine section and the Rosachi section. Remember, if you’re fishing the Nevada side the new license season just started on the first, so the license you may have had last year is no longer valid. If you need a new license you can get them right here at Ken’s, either by the day or annual, resident or non-resident.
The photo below is what most Eastern Sierra back country anglers, and back country trout envision when they think of a yellow-legged frog. Long live the Golden Trout! Long live the Brookies!! Have you ever tried to catch a yellow-legged frog on a Stillwater Nymph???? Anyway…
By the way, these goofy definitions I’ve been writing come from a little pocket book called “An Angler’s Dictionary” by Henry Beard and Roy KcKie, some of them are kinda funny, hope you enjoy them.
Baffling 1.n. Compartmentalized interior construction of a down-filled sleeping bag. 2.adj. Perplexing or puzzling, as in a baffling problem, like how to stuff a mass of portable bedding the size of a pony into a receptacle apparently designed to hold a shaving kit.
