Well, here we are again, on the verge of another trout season opener! Things are looking good, the water levels are pretty good, much better than last year anyway! The “weatherman” is saying that it’s going to be sunny for the weekend, maybe the wind will lay down as well!!

Speaking of wind, it’s been pretty bad lately, very annoying. It’s nice so far today, and apparently yesterday was supposed to be the last day of the real windy stuff. The EW has been a little tough because of the wind lately, but there’s been a few folks that have toughed it out and reaped the rewards. Quite a few nice fish, mostly over 14”, and a fair number over 18”. Still the same types of bugs, caddis nymphs, san juans, small midge patterns. I think as long as the flows don’t get too crazy all should be great for the opener.

The Virginia Lakes road is open, the lakes are still frozen but with some color starting to show. Always be careful when venturing out on the ice. The Twins are ice free, as well as Bridgeport Lake. Bridgeport Marina is open, the docks are in and they’re launching boats, you can also launch at the “Bathtub”, however, the public ramp that is maintained by Mono County is not quite long enough to reach the water yet, I’m sure that as soon as the weather warms up a bit and the lake comes up this will change, but for now you’ll need to use one of the other two ramps.

Below are a few photos of some fish caught recently on the EW.

Bass – By far the most popular freshwater game fish in the U.S and Canada, offering an amazingly rich variety of sport. The fish may be of the smallmouth, largemouth, black, spotted, white or yellow varieties; they may be fished on fly rods or spinnint tackle, in lakes or rivers, wading or afloat, in spring or summer, with streamers, bugs, poppers, plugs, or flies; but despite this incredible angling diversity, all bass fishing has one thing in common: no bass has ever been caught in North America without at least one six-pack.
