Here’s a re-cap of the 2007 Bridgeport Fish Enhancement Program Fly Fishing Tournament that took place earlier this month:
There were 17 fly-fishers on the East Walker and 13 on Bridgeport Reservoir, about 55 folks attended the awards dinner which consisted of a 16oz prime rib, salad, pasta, veggies, smoked trout, and desert, not too mention lots of fun for all. The event made about $4500 with $3800 of that going straight to the Program. We were able to give away about $8200 worth of prizes including an Outcast pontoon boat, $1000 Sage Fly rod combo, vacation packages, Fishpond packs, Oakley glasses, etc. The program has planted over 100 pounds of 1-2 pound browns this month, and will plant another 1000+ pounds before the month is over. The newly constructed stocking trailer is working out great for stocking fish in waters that are a little further away.
Mundo Robles of Bridgeport, Ca. won the first place overall with 42.5 points fishing the East Walker. First place in the East Walker division was Chris Mohawk of Long Beach, Ca. with 17.5points, second was a tie between Doug Rodericks of Mammoth Lakes, Ca. and Tom Savedra of Bridgeport, Ca, both with 16 points. The Lake division was won by Don Goodyear of Sacramento, Ca. with an 18.75” brown.
Overall this was a great tournament and everyone I spoke with had a great time. The fishing on the lake wasn’t as good as it could’ve been, but the river seemed to produce quite a few fish. The tourney will be a go next year, and hopefully there will be even more anglers get involved.
